The City Council met in a special session on the 5th day of May
at 7:00 PM in the Council Room.
Present: Greg Hansen, Donald E. Johnson, Leonard McLaughlin,
Todd Harrington and Xiong Yang
Also present: Mike Zeug and Travis Schaar
Mayor Hansen presided at the meeting
The council closed the meeting during discussion of employee
performance. Once all discussion was finished, there was a
motion by Donald E. Johnson, second by Todd Harrington to open
the meeting back up to the public. All voted in favor, motion
carried.
The Council recommended that Travis Schaar be put back on full
duty and be paid for the hours he lost when he was suspended.
Police Chief Zeug did not agree with this recommendation. The
council agreed to have the sheriff’s department investigate the
complaint against a department member. Motion by Todd
Harrington, second by Xiong Yang to reinstate Travis to full
duty with back pay for hours lost. All voted in favor, motion
carried.
Mike Zeug suggested that Travis Schaar take over as Police Chief
beginning June 1, 2008. Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by
Xiong Yang for Travis to assume the police chief position in 30
days, which would be June 4. All voted in favor, motion
carried.
Mayor Hansen reported that the psychological exam that Travis
took came back and that Travis was recommended for the Police
Chief position.
Tom Hansen will be hiring a part time employee to help him
replace the ceiling tiles in the community center and to help
get some painting done. This employee will be paid the same
rate as the other part time help.
Tom Hansen will be ordering a new rug to replace the damaged one
in the community center.
Motion by Todd Harrington, second by Donald E. Johnson to
approve the Land Use Permit for Leonard McLaughlin to replace
his deck with a larger one. All voted in favor, motion carried.
Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Donald E. Johnson to
adjourn. All voted in favor, motion carried.
