The City Council met in a regular session on the 10th day of May, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Council Room.

 

Present: Greg Hansen, Todd Harrington, Leonard McLaughlin and Jeff Harnack

 

Absent:  Xiong Yang

 

Also Present:  Lon Walling, William Rabenberg, Al Nelson, Dave Hoyt, Lee Steffen, Tom Hansen, Chad Freeburg and Mike Zeug.

The Bar & Grill report continues to show a slight increase in sales.  

 

Discussion was held with County Commissioner Lon Walling, County Engineer William Rabenberg and Al Nelson about ideas to generate revenue at Plum Creek Park perhaps by doing some sort of fund raiser and to come up with ideas to increase usage of the lower park.  No decisions were made but they will continue to look at options The Park will continue to run as is for 2010.

 

Fire Chief Chad Freeburg reported to the council that there are 4 hydrants in town that need to be repaired.  Discussion was held on applying for a FEMA Grant in 2010.  Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Todd Harrington to approve the application for funds to purchase a new Tanker and some miscellaneous equipment. All voted in favor, motion carried. 

 

The Maintenance Report was given by Tom Hansen.  The new sweeper has been delivered and the old sweeper was hauled in for scrap.  The city received a check for $757.00 for it.  The siding on the Bar & Grill is peeling and should still be covered under warranty.  Tom has taken pictures and sent in the necessary information to see if they are going to cover the repairs.  The City Wide cleanup was successful.  We took in 29 appliances and over 50 electronics, plus filled two dumpsters.  Tom asked the council if he can sell the old generator that came out of the old fire truck.  Motion by Todd Harrington, second by Leonard McLaughlin to declare the generator as excess property and to have Tom sell it for a fair price on Craig’s list.  The money received for it will be put into the Fire Dept. fund.  All voted in favor, motion carried.

 

Discussion was held and the council gave approval to have the damaged tiles replaced in the kitchen and the hallway at the community center and to have the floors stripped and waxed.

 

The Police Report was given by Chief Zeug.  Mike will follow up with the residents that were asked to clean up their yards prior to the city wide cleanup to make sure they have complied.  Discussion was held on the impounded vehicles at the city shop.  The City has gotten the approval from the City Attorney to dispose of them.  Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Jeff Harnack for the Toyota truck to be given back to the original owner to eliminate any more funds being spent on this , and for the impounded Honda Civic to be donated to the Walnut Grove Fire Department to be used for training.  All voted in favor, motion carried.

 

Motion by Todd Harrington, second by Leonard McLaughlin to pay the 2010 dues of $428.25. to the Association of Small Cities.  All voted in favor, motion carried.

 

Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Jeff Harnack to approve the Minutes for the April 12, 2010 regular meeting.  All voted in favor, motion carried. 

 

Motion by Todd Harrington, second by Jeff Harnack to approve Claims #31668 through 31766.  All voted in favor, motion carried.

 

Motion by Todd Harrington, second by Jeff Harnack to adjourn.  All voted in favor, motion carried.
