The City Council met in a regular session on the 14th day of
March, 2011 at 7:00 PM in the Council Room.
Present: Greg Hansen, Leonard McLaughlin, Todd Harrington and
Jeff Harnack.
Absent: Xiong Yang
Also Present: Tom Hansen, Wes Bell, Mike Zeug and Carol Swanson
Mayor Hansen presided at the meeting
The maintenance report was given by Tom Hansen. Tom will be
attending training this spring for his water license. The
council asked Tom to get prices for resurfacing the tennis court
in the city park for discussion at the next council meeting.
Discussion was held on the placement of a pedestrian crossing
sign at the corner of 8th Street and Main. Tom will
contact the county to see about getting this accomplished.
Discussion was held on obtaining an extended warranty for the
tractor. The council determined they would not purchase an
extended warranty.
The City wide cleanup day was discussed. No changes will be
made from last year and the date will be set for May 14, 2011.
Street maintenance was discussed. Motion by Jeff Harnack,
second by Leonard McLaughlin to commit $5000 for crack repair
with Bargen Incorporated in 2011. All voted in favor, motion
carried.
Wes Bell presented the council with the Water/wastewater
report. PeopleService is recommending that the city purchase
chlorine leak detectors in each well house and at the treatment
plant. The cost is approximately $2400 for each detector. Wes
will get more information about this and a decision will be made
at the next council meeting.
The council has asked Wes to check on the refurbished manholes
and report the condition to the council at the next meeting.
They have also asked that Wes obtain a quote to have at least
two more manholes refurbished this year.
Maintenance on both well houses was discussed. The council has
asked for Wes to get a quote for the work that is left to do in
both well houses and report it at the next council meeting.
Discussion was held on paying the membership dues for the MN
Rural Water Association. Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second
by Todd Harrington to table the discussion. All voted in favor,
motion carried.
Discussion was held on changing internet service to Redred.
Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Todd Harrington to
switch internet service to Redred at the 512 speed. All voted
in favor, motion carried.
Discussion was held on the Small Cities Project with Lamberton.
Ten homes in Walnut Grove have been approved and eight homes
from Lamberton have been approved. Work has begun on some of
the properties.
The Annual Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting will be held
April 11, 2011 at 7pm in the Walnut Grove City Office building
in the Council Room.
Discussion was held on the sale of the properties the city
purchased at the tax forfeiture sale in October. The city will
sell the following properties by sealed bid on May 9, 2011.
94-200-0100(25’ lot on the east end of Main Street),
94-200-2000(431 Main Street) and 94-568-0700 (9th
Street at the end of Main). The persons with the high bids on
each property would also be responsible for the cost of
transferring the deed to their name. There will be no minimum
bid requirement and the City Council reserves the right to
reject any or all bids.
Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Todd Harrington to
approve the Minutes for the Feb. 14, 2011 regular meeting. All
voted in favor, motion carried.
Motion by Jeff Harnack, second by Leonard McLaughlin to approve
the Minutes for the Feb. 22, 2011 Special meeting. All voted in
favor, motion carried.
Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Todd Harrington to
approve Claims #32861 through #32952. All voted in favor,
motion carried.
Motion by Todd Harrington, second by Leonard McLaughlin to
adjourn. All voted in favor, motion carried.
