Walnut Grove, MN

The City Council met in a regular session on the 13th day of
July at 7:00 PM in the Council Room.
Present: Greg Hansen, Leonard McLaughlin, Todd Harrington and
Jeff Harnack and Xiong Yang.
Also Present: Paula McGarvey, Deb Johnson, Mike Zeug, Tom
Hanson, Wes Bell, Jeff Gladis & Chuck Swanson.
Mayor Hansen presided at the meeting
The Bar & Grill report was given by Deb Johnson. Sales continue
to increase at the Bar & Grill however the costs have also
continued to increase showing a decline in profits for 2009.
Tom Hansen gave the maintenance report. The crack filling has
been completed on the streets that will be seal coated. The
council received two quotes for seal coating. Caldwell Asphalt
Co. quoted $1.08 per square yard for a total of $57,780. Morris
Sealcoat quoted $1.03 per square yard for a total of $55,105.00
for 53,500 square yards. The seal coating will be completed by
the end of August. Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Todd
Harrington to approve the quote from Morris Sealcoat. All voted
in favor, motion carried.
Discussion was held on hiring someone else clean up the pea rock
after the seal coating is finished. The estimate Morris gave
was for $8000. Tom and the council decided he would use the
sweeper we have and hope it is able to handle the job. They
will discuss purchasing a new sweeper in 2010 at the budget
meeting.
The Water/Wastewater Report was given by Wes Bell. The primary
clarifier has been replaced at the waste plant. Discussion was
held about rerouting some of the water on the west side of town
on a regular basis to flush the lines better.
The Police Report was given by Mike Zeug.
Jeff Gladis and Chuck Swanson from Western Community Action
presented the Council with a grant proposal for Walnut Grove
along with Lamberton. If Walnut Grove and Lamberton were
approved for the grant, it would be used for residential housing
improvements for roofing, foundations, siding, heating,
electrical, plumbing or other necessary permanent repairs.
These grants would be available for low to moderate income
families. There will be a survey that residents of Walnut Grove
will need to complete so that the city can be approved for the
grant. It is estimated that approximately 10 homes in Walnut
Grove will benefit from this grant.
Motion by Jeff Harnack, second by Leonard McLaughlin to approve
the proclamation for Agnes Sykora. All voted in favor, motion
carried.
Motion by Leonard McLaughlin, second by Todd Harrington to
approve the Minutes for the June 8, 2009 regular meeting and the
June 25, 2009 special Meeting. All voted in favor,
motion carried.
Motion by Todd Harrington, second by Xiong Yang to approve
Claims #30573 through 30684. All voted in favor, motion
carried.
Motion by Todd Harrington, second by Jeff Harnack to adjourn.
All voted in favor, motion carried.
